Exorcising the Demons Route Description
|
To get to the climb: Hike up the
Baron Creek Trail from Grandjean.
As you get to the meadows
approximately 1/4 mile before
crossing N fork of Baron Creek,
look south th the granite slabs on
Grandjean Peak.
Pitch #1- 4+:
Climb / scramble up the lower
slabs. (5.4 - 5.6) Pro is difficult to
find and very run out--if you are
pitching out this section, the top
pitches will probably kick your
butts!!
Exit the slabs and put your
approach shoes back on for about
another 400 vertical feet of class 3
scrambling interspersed with more
slabs to the upper cliffs.
Pitch #5:
Follow obvious huge offwidth /
chimney up rock face. Begins as
5.7 and gets progressively steeper
as you climb to the crux after 50 m,
which is a 20 ft face (5.10). get pro
as you are able--some sections are
fairly run out. Small gear or pitons
may be preferrable.
Good belay anchor spot(s) just
below crux face.
Pitch #6+:
Continue up face, climbing should
ease somewhat after about 1/2
pitch-- you are in new territory from
here to the summit, so GOOD
LUCK!!
Descent:
Call Life Flight--get a helicopter
ride back to Boise--45 minutes,
$30,000 or scramble and
downclimb / rappel anywhere you
can. Routes are plentiful to get off
the mountain.
